Playing with Myself: paintings and drawings by Cobi Moules
The Sleeth Gallery is proud to announce the second exhibition of the Spring 2013 season: Playing with Myself: Paintings and drawings by Cobi Moules. The exhibition will run from February 5 – 28, 2013
Moules’s work borrows from traditional representations of portraiture and 19th century American landscape painting, playfully exploring notions of self, autonomy and gratification as part of his queer and transgender identity. His hyperrealist paintings and drawings create spaces for personal significance and a queer presence.
Moules is based in Boston, MA, where he received a MFA in 2010 from The School of Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University. Recent awards include the SMFA Traveling Fellowship, Vermont Studio Center Fellowship, Blanche E. Colman Award and a Joan Mitchell MFA Grant. His work has been exhibited nationally including Platform Galley in Seattle, Ogunquit Museum of American Art in Ogunquit, ME, Lyons Wier Gallery and CUE in New York, Foster Gallery in Dedham, MA as well as a solo exhibition at Carroll and Sons Gallery in Boston, MA. More information about the artist can be found at http://cobimoules.com/.
An opening reception will be held on Thursday, February 7th at 4:30pm with an artist’s talk to immediately follow at 6:00pm in the gallery.
This exhibition is held in collaboration with the Gender Studies program of West Virginia Wesleyan College.
