Exhibition dates: October 11- November 6, 2019
Charley Harper was born and raised in Upshur County, where he derived inspiration from the mountains and wildlife of West Virginia. Charley attended West Virginia Wesleyan College before transferring to the Art Academy of Cincinnati. He later received an honorary degree from WVWC in 1974.
Famous for his geometric depictions of wildlife using a style that Charley referred to as ‘minimal realism’. The exhibition will feature a selection of his stylized serigraphs from the WVWC Special Collections, in addition to a number of paintings and illustrations. While reproductions of these paintings and illustrations graced the cover of Ford Times Magazine, the WVWC Special Collections remains the only place to view many of the original works.
